Chateau parks and gardens

Chateau parks and gardens

Instead of fortification walls, chateaus which lost their defensive function over time are surrounded by parks that accentuate their beauty. Join us for a stroll in chateau parks – each one is different and each one will impress you in its own way.

Unique parks in Haná

Čechy pod Kosířem Chateau

This picturesque Neo-Classicist chateau surrounded by a vast English-style park is associated with the noble Silva-Tarouca family and with influential Czech painter Josef Mánes, a frequent guest at the chateau. There are five guided tours available.

The park at Čechy pod Kosířem Chateau is among the most valuable Romantic landscaping works in the Czech Republic. The Silva-Tarouca family, also associated with the well-known park in Prague-Průhonice, contributed significantly to its creation. A walk in the park really soothes the soul. The Red Tower is straight out of the fairy-tale Goldilocks, the romantic Mánes Pavillion and the mysterious Dragon Cave will certainly please all children. You can also go on a guided tour of the park, offered during the summer tourist season.

Náměšť na Hané Chateau

The Neo-Classicist chateau, inspired by French architectural influences, boasts richly decorated Rococo interiors presenting the lifestyle of high aristocracy. The chateau hosts a number of cultural events for all generations.

The local park is not impressive due to its size, but for its layout – it is circular, bordered by a cobblestone road, and linden avenues project from the park to all four sides. One could say that it is, in fact, a large natural compass. Thanks to the avenues, the park gradually merges with the surrounding landscape. Coming to the chateau, you will go down one of the avenues (heading east) up to one of the largest roundabouts in Central Europe. The north avenue leads to the ruins of a medieval castle, while the west one goes part the amphitheatre and heads to the woods of Terezské údolí Nature Park.

Parks and gardens in a mountain paradise

Velké Losiny Chateau

This late-Renaissance chateau boasts exceptionally well-preserved interiors. The chateau history is associated with the infamous 17th-century witchcraft inquisition trials. The chateau hosts various cultural events and visitors can choose from two guided tours.

The chateau park was established in 1602 as a Renaissance garden. It was redeveloped into a Baroque French-style park in the 18th century, and later turned into an English-style landscape park in the early 19th century. Visitors love walking around the pond in the park, breathtaking especially in the spring when a multitude of rhododendrons of various colours are in bloom.

Jánský Vrch Chateau

This charming chateau overlooks the town of Javorník in the Rychleby Mountains near the Czech-Polish border. From the mid-14th century, the castle and the surrounding domains were owned by the Diocese of Wroclaw for the next six hundred years. Visitors can choose from six guided tours, showing, for instance, one of the largest collections of tobacco pipes in Czechia.

The chateau has two gardens. The older is a small French-style ornamental garden, established in 1776 and preserved to this day. Although not open to public, it is clearly visible from the courtyard. The English-style park is a bit younger. It was established around 1800 and lies primarily behind the chateau buildings and partially on the terraces under the chateau. During the summer, the park features the Fairy-Tale Trail for families with children, who search and recognise fairy-tale motifs created using natural materials. The trail is freely accessible.
