Festivals, concerts and exhibitions in historic residences
District Museum in Nysa
The District Museum in Nysa, housed in the former residence of the bishops of Wrocław, actively participates in the cultural life of the city. In addition to its permanent and temporary exhibitions, the institution regularly organises concerts and artistic events that attract lovers of music and history. It is here that chamber concerts and events accompanying the International Cello Academy – a renowned cello music festival during which the sound of instruments resonates both in the museum halls and in its courtyard – take place. The museum also takes part in nationwide and European cultural initiatives such as Museum Night and the European Heritage Days. Classical music concerts, exhibitions, performances and author meetings are organised here. For many years, an important element of the institution’s activity has also been the Salon of the Nysa Artistic Group – a cyclical exhibition presenting the achievements of local artists. This exhibition includes painting, graphic art, sculpture and other forms of art, constituting an important point in the city’s cultural calendar. So perhaps, while visiting the museum exhibitions – showing the richness of European art and the history of episcopal Nysa – there may also be an opportunity to take part in a unique concert or an inspiring meeting.
Rozkochów Palace
Rozkochów Palace is a place where history meets modern culture. Although the residence is small and the process of restoring it to its former glory is still ongoing, concerts and cultural events are regularly held here – both classical music concerts and the cyclical Rock am Palast, an alternative rock festival with numerous accompanying events. There is also no shortage of attractions for motoring enthusiasts – vintage car rallies are organised here, when old vehicles take over the entire grounds. Every month, visitors can explore the antiques market and look for a unique keepsake. The palace park and courtyard create an extraordinary setting for these events, and during a guided tour one can take a look into the less accessible corners of the residence. In season, guests can also enjoy a moment of respite over a cup of coffee in the palace interiors.
Moszna Castle
Moszna Castle is a venue for many cultural activities. Concerts, exhibitions and music festivals are held here, attracting lovers of art and music.
One of the most important events is the Musical Festival of Blooming Azaleas – a recurring event organised since 1984. Its originator, creator and long-time artistic director was Zbigniew Pawlicki. The festival, which today bears his name, has become a permanent fixture in the region’s cultural calendar. Since 2026, the castle has also hosted Fly with Us – an open-air electronic music festival that brings modern sounds into this historic setting. It is also home to the Castello Musical Theatre, which presents, among other things, classical operettas and musical performances. Taking part in one of these events can be an excellent complement to a tour of the interiors and walks through the castle park. It is worth staying here longer – the castle also offers dining and accommodation services.
Museum of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg
The Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg is not only a historic residence, but also an important cultural centre of the region. Chamber concerts, art exhibitions and other cultural events are regularly held here. The arcaded courtyard and castle halls become a stage for music and art, bringing the historic interiors to life.
Among the recurring events, the Liszt Evenings stand out – a series of several concerts each year, organised in the Pinotti Hall and devoted to classical music. Dance lovers are drawn to the Tango Festival Alegria en Brzeg – an event encompassing the entire city, within which concerts and performances are also held at the castle. During the summer season, the castle is also one of the venues of the Silesian Musical Summer – a concert series organised in various places across the Opole region. While visiting, it is also worth exploring the museum’s interesting and varied exhibitions and relaxing in the castle garden.
Sulisław Palace
In the historic interiors of Sulisław Palace, history is combined with music. The Sulisław Palace Museum presents not only a unique collection of porcelain from Tułowice and other manufactories, but also paintings and clocks that recall the residence’s past. The palace truly comes to life, however, during artistic gatherings and concerts. It is here that the music of Józef Elsner and Silvius Leopold Weiss – composers born in nearby Grodków – resounds, giving these events a unique local dimension. An important event of the year is the Chopin-Elsner Festival, referring to the “master-pupil” relationship between Józef Elsner and Fryderyk Chopin. In the historic interiors of the palace, their works come alive in interpretations by outstanding artists, and each concert becomes a journey through the sounds of the past that continue to inspire contemporary audiences.
