The biggest axe and the funeral carriage
Konice Chateau
The Museum of Local Handicrafts presents various trades with long traditions, such as grain milling, manufacture of scales, blacksmithing, brewing, and dressmaking. A number of rare exhibits are on display at the museum, for instance the oldest preserved tower clockwork in the region and firearms from the Napoleonic Wars.
The museum also boasts the largest collection of axes of all kinds in the Czech Republic, recorded in the Czech Book of Records. The collection includes the largest Czech axe and lumberjack saw.
Čechy pod Kosířem Chateau
This picturesque Neo-Classicist chateau surrounded by a vast English-style park is associated with the noble Silva-Tarouca family and with influential Czech painter Josef Mánes, a frequent guest at the chateau. There are five guided tours available.
Every July, the park hosts Josefkol, an international event presenting ancient trades associated with coach-making. The event is organised by the Museum of Carriages located just outside the park. It showcases the largest collection of historical carriages and lanterns in Central Europe, with more than 100 coaches and sleighs. The rarest exhibits are the Golden Coach from 1750 and the Archbishop’s Coach. The collection also includes funeral coaches, including the largest one in the world.
